Overtaking isn’t solely a city cycling issue, but the fact is that it occurs more in a city context than it does in any other comparable context. Knowing how to overtake correctly will save you a lot of energy and embarrassment, and make life easier for everyone involved. Most of the advice in this article refers to the overtaking of one bicycle by another, but if you’re up to the task then it can be applied to the overtaking of motor cars as well.

There are actually quite a lot of cycling orientated websites out there. Some are easy to find, some are not so easy. Here’s my list of the sites that I use and enjoy on a daily basis.

Why? Because my coach told me so.
No, really. Why?

This is handy – everything you need to fix a puncture in one little pack. You get an Air Rush Regulator CO2 inflator that allows you to control the airflow with the twist of a little wheel, two sturdy tyre levers, and two threaded 16g CO2 cartridges. There’s also a rubber sleeve that you fit over the cartridge to stop your fingers from freezing and a bunch of glueless patches.

The rear derailleur is, in many ways, the definitive bicycle component, it defines the ‘groupset’ and that in turn, defines the bike. Cyclists often use the shorthand of talking about an ‘Ultegra’ road bike or an ‘XTR’ mountain bike. In addition to this the rear derailleur is the most complex and machine like bicycle component, unlike handlebars or hubs it is a real ‘mechanism’, with plenty of mechanical action going on. Finally there may be something to Arnfried Schmitz’s whimsical idea that “collecting derailleurs is fascinating because they are small, complex and have two wheels – like a bike!”

so with 2 1/2 weeks left in chicago, i walk out to find both gold rims missing from my bike. the scene of the crime was milwaukee, north and damen right in front of the salon i've been working at and parking my bike in front of for the last 4 1/2 years. it is quite a bustling neighborhood between the hours of 5 and 9, so i was pretty taken aback that someone would actually have the balls to pull this off.

This is a rustic and full flavoured dish. I know what you’re thinking: “Sardines?!” Yes, but this stuff is awesome! I got this recipe from Gourmet Magazine (May 2009) and while I usually like to add my own touches, I left this as-is because it’s amazing. I wanted a pasta recipe that met my nutritional needs as a cyclist, and this one does. Sardines are packed with protein, Omega 3-fatty acids and calcium, and are low in “bad fat” and high in “good fat.”

Prologue: I am just going to get right to the point here. If you are addicted to cycling and a healthy lifestyle, move to the San Francisco Bay Area! We have been blessed by God to have access to amazingly delicious and fresh foods grown locally at sustainable, and often organic, farms right here in Northern California. Not only that, but the area also offers incredibly beautiful landscapes to ride with a nine-to-ten month season that simply cannot be fully described by words or pictures.

A quarter of households in Britain – more in the larger cities, and a majority in some inner cities – live without a car. Imagine how quality of life would improve for cyclists and everyone else if traffic were removed from areas where people could practically choose to live without cars. Does this sound unrealistic, utopian? Did you know many European cities are already doing it?

There is no doubt that the Colnago Super Singlespeed is an eye-catching bike, a thing of beauty. It's stopped people in their tracks at every cycle show we've been at this autumn, even more or less hidden away on Colnago's stand at Eurobike it drew an appreciative crowd, likewise in Milan and at the London show too, where not only was their one on the Colnago stand, but another on our stand too – where again it pulled 'em in. But bikes are not just for looking at, especially £1400 ones, they're for riding too…
